Students from the United States and over 100 foreign countries enroll each year in programs offered by 21 schools and colleges. University of Illinois graduates, which include 16 Pulitzer and nine Nobel Prize winners, are national and international leaders in business, science, engineering, agriculture and the arts. Located on the Illinois prairie 140 miles south of Chicago, 170 miles northeast of St. Louis and 120 miles west of Indianapolis, the University of Illinois and the twin cities of Urbana-Champaign form a thriving community rich in social, cultural and recreational opportunities. Library Facilities The largest of any public university in the United States, the library offers an outstanding business collection and exceptional resources for advanced study. The availability of complete reference and bibliographic facilities, including manuscripts, maps, recordings, micro texts and pamphlets, makes any type of research possible. In addition, over 90,000 periodicals, serials and newspapers are received. These resources are housed in the main library and in more than 35 departmental and area studies libraries. Of particular interest to business students is the Commerce Library. It maintains a working collection of 66,000 volumes, 1,600 periodical and serial titles, and an extensive collection of corporate annual reports dating back to 1960. High-Technology Centers
The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, is a result of the largest gift ever presented to a U.S. public university. This institute joins the biological and physical sciences in search of a better understanding of human and artificial intelligence. The Arts The campus is also a major Midwestern center for the arts, including theater, concerts and ballet. The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts was designed by alumnus Max Abramovitz, the architect of New York City's Lincoln Center. It houses the Foellinger Great Hall, the Tryon Festival Theatre, the Colwell Playhouse, the Studio Theatre and an outdoor amphitheater, all of which showcase world-renowned university and visiting artists. More than 350 public performances of theater, music, ballet and opera are held each year at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The university's three museums: Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion, the Spurlock Museum and the Museum of Natural History are open to visitors free of charge.
